lyrics

He went outside in the rain and started to row
The boat kept filling up so the going was slow
He was a man without a dream
Who just couldn't keep himself clean
The storm clouds turned and watched him go

He drifted along until he heard a sound
It was a child up in a tree afraid she'd drown
He offered her his hand
Helped her understand
That he would take her to higher ground

And they went on and on and on
They went on and on and on and on

The girl and the man floated into town
They saw the red tops of stop signs with water all around
Possessions on a roof
White flags hung as proof
That inside there was life still to be found

They saw a dog swimming in the street
Holding his head high but getting weak
The pulled him in the boat
Tried to dry his coat
Now the rescued souls numbered three

And they went on and one and on
They went on and on and on and on

The sky shed its skin, the rain was done
The boat reached a hill and there as one
They stepped onto dry land
The dog, the girl, the man
Took a breath and turned to face the sun
