lyrics

A spring not long ago
We found our perfect home
Moved right in and started to unpack
That night the lights went dark
The dog began to bark
And I felt like someone was watching when I turned my back

So I went on a search
Through every bar and every church
To try to find out who this soul might be
There were whispers in the years
And then a name appeared
It floated up to me as if in a dream

Adelia

A century before
Our home was a factory floor
Adelia was married to a man who worked the third
She came to steal a kiss
She took the stairs but missed
And at twenty-two “I love you” were her final words

What’s her story worth
If I put it in a verse
And so many more like Adelia hang between our lives
I dreamt her eyes were blue
Do the dead deserve the truth?
Or is it just enough if their names survive

Adelia
