lyrics

I am the architect of a glass and steel life
Building it up to the sky
Every couple years I used to knock it all down
No one could understand why

Now it stands like a sundial’s style
Measuring time by the light
Casting a shadow that moves in the day
And disappears into the night

Oh I used to believe
I could find some relief
From the darkness and sorrow and grief
But now I can see
It’s all part of me

I am the engineer of a runaway train
Barreling into the black
Every few miles I try to throttle it down
But it just keeps on eating the tracks

So I settle in and steer through the turns
And try to bring it back ‘round
The rails are screaming, the cars are careening
The smoke rises up heaven bound

Oh I used to believe
I could find some relief
From the darkness and sorrow and grief
But now I can see
It’s all part of me

I am an astronaut launched into space
Drifting around in the stars
I can see the earth where it hangs in the sky
I can feel its gravity in my heart

So I say my goodbyes, step into the void
Unhooking myself from the line
Don’t know where I’m going, so I’ll keep on floating
Until I run out of time
